This is his 4th? I hate to say it, but if found guilty, he'll lose his license and do some time for this. That's the way it goes.
Four convictions is pretty heavy duty. He could have his license pulled for a year and face a jail sentence of the same length. Not too mention, he'll be paying steep fines, which won't be a problem for him. Lately, the courts have not been too kind to celebrity lawbreakers. Judges have been sick and tired of their cases clogging the legal system and the celebs get away with a slap on the wrist, while the ordinary Joe or Jane gets the book thrown at them.

But...then again, it's what happens after the initial arrest that could make a difference in a judge's demeanor at sentencing, too. Mel Gibson was pretty contrite. I think he'd had prior arrests for the same thing, and I don't think he served time.

Then, there was Paris Hilton. No priors, to what I believe. Buuuuut...she turned around and drove on a suspended license, twice! I think that's what got her thrown in the pokey!

It will also depend on how far over the legal limit Kiefer was....Any is too much, obviously, but extenuating circumstances can come into play in a judges decision.

I am probably going to get so flamed for this-
Kiefer got off easy. 48 days in the Glendale jail is a cakewalk. I am so tired of seeing celebs get off easy for acts that anyone else would really have to do REAL time for. 4th offence- He should have pulled it together way before now.

At least no one died because of what he did- 5 years ago a drunk driver ran a stop sign & smashed into another car. He hit the other vehicle so hard that he pushed the car onto someones lawn & thru the side of a house- the police estimated he was going 90mph in a residential neighborhood 2 blocks from a school. The DUI driver was not injured at all He was sober enough to get out of his car & look in at the people in the other vehicle & then he ran off.
A woman who was 8 months pregnant DIED the baby she was carrying DIED her husband who was driving DIED- her two children who were seatbelted in the back seat recieved minor injuries and they had another brother at home with a relative. Heres all I can find now about the incident:
On Thursday in Salinas, 30-year-old Shavougue Antoine Mason allegedly ran a stop sign at more than 60 mph and broadsided a BMW carrying a young couple and their two sons. The parents, Rene Porras, 31, and Rosalinda Porras, 25, were killed while their two sons in the car were treated for minor injuries. Another son was not in the car.

Mason was in Monterey County Jail Friday in lieu of $1 million bond, authorities said.

They decided not to charge the guy with murder for the unborn baby-

The husband died instantly & the mother died knowing he was dead. I still get upset when I think of the two kids that were in the car with them.

Maybe it rankles me because I witnessed that accident. I dont care if Kiefer or some other guy who isnt famous gets behind the wheel of a car while drunk, Its Russian Roulette & I certainly would not be lenient if any celeb smashed into my car & killed my family while driving drunk, so why are the courts lenient-
Remember back in the 90's when Vince Neil killed Razzle (drummer for Hanoi Rocks) while driving drunk- He got like 100 hours of community service, where is the justice in that?

I had two friends of mine killed in high school by a drunk driver. Another in the back seat of the car received serious injuries. The two dead were sisters, both in my freshman German class. It was an awful feeling going to class and seeing two empty seats where they should have been sitting. I have no sympathy for drunk drivers. They need to be punished. I don't feel sorry for Keifer Sutherland. He obviously hasn't learned that it is not okay to drink and drive.

What razzes me to death are the ones like Paris Hilton, that get these piss ant sentences, and then try every trick in the book to get out of it. Sit down, shut up and serve your time already! As lenient as the judge was with Keifer, at least he turned himself in and isn't spending his time behind bars scheming of ways to call up his Daddy or his lawyer and get out before his time.

No, SFVamp, you are not going to be flamed for this. Everyone has the right to voice his/her opinion, as long as you do not insult or swear.

I am a huge Kiefer fan, I adore his talent and his work but real life is completely different. I understand your point of view. Justice is not better on this side of the ocean. When we started to talk about Kiefer's arrest, here in Belgium, a 13 years old teenager had been killed by a drunk driver on his way back from school. It was the driver's 9th arrestation for DUI!!! UNBELIEVABLE. I am a mother and I can easily imagine the pain of his parents. I cried.

Today, a couple of hours ago, a 16 years old boy has just been killed too. The drunk driver ran away!

Alcool is a very dangerous weapon and the sentences have to be rude, I agree. I'm not sorry for what happened to him.

Of course I signed the support petition online, I have a support picture for the love campaign on my website but in the "message" I sent him, I said that I do not encourage his behaviour and I sincerely hope he'd take lessons from this. I won't stop being a fan just because of this. He's not a killer (no yest - and I hope he'll never be), he's not a robber... So yes, I support him going through those difficult moments but I clearly told him (if ever the message reaches its target) that he HAS to do something about this. He HAS to learn from his mistakes. We all do.
